The Master of Arts Administration program was established in 1985 to prepare students for leadership positions in arts and cultural organizations or the skills to develop new creative industry projects and businesses. The program offers students, who already have experience in the arts, with knowledge and understanding of the business of the arts, including governance, management, marketing, and fund development. The program includes courses from different fields to equip students with administrative and aesthetic knowledge that will enable them to assume positions as creative entrepreneurs, planners, advocates, administrators and community organizers in the arts. Students develop research and consulting practices that support data driven decision making in a wide variety of creative work environments. The program attracts students from many different arts disciplinary interests. Students are encouraged to be civically engaged and thus become aware of the unique impact the arts can have on our broader community through education, cultural planning, advocacy and economic development.
